GLOBAL VOLUNTEERS

REACHING CHILDREN’S POTENTIAL

In August 2021, we documented a comprehensive health program in the rural highlands of Tanzania. The program, led by Global Volunteers, focuses on the first thousand days of a child’s life, from conception to the second birthday. By providing maternal health care and education, safe delivery, postpartum care and nutrition, this program is designed to eradicate stunting, an irreversible condition that inhibits children’s mental and physical growth. Stunting is caused by inadequate nutrition and medical care, and it is prevalent in rural Tanzania. The program we filmed has already shown impressive results:In its first four years, stunting decreased by 57% in families that participate.

Talking Eyes received a grant from the Thomas Ohana Foundation to produce this short film, which will be used to promote the efforts of Global Volunteers in tackling stunting. The Foundation has financially supported the program and it’s onsite clinic, and members of the foundation felt a documentary could help elevate the visibility and support the program deserves.

Talking Eyes captured the true spirit and depth of the story behind our program – such that we’re proud to use this film in our crucial fundraising and volunteer recruiting efforts. They are true humanitarians that really care about telling the hopeful stories in the world – something we crave in these unsettled times.
