MPALA: A LIVING LANDSCAPE
The Mpala Research Centre is situated in the shadow of Mount Kenya in the heart of Laikipia County, Kenya. The 48,000-acre landscape is home to incredibly diverse wildlife, including the endangered Grevy’s zebra, thousands of elephants, giraffes, hippos, monkeys and more. As a private research center, students and scientists from around the world are able to conduct controlled large-scale experiments that would not be possible elsewhere.
In 2019, Princeton University commissioned Talking Eyes to create a video for the 25th anniversary of the Mpala Research Centre, celebrating its accomplished history and those who helped it thrive.
Mpala Live! gives a round-the-clock look at the lives of elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, hippos, birds, and other animals at a unique conservancy in Kenya. In 2014 Talking Eyes produced a series of videos that capture the work of scientists at the Mpala Research Centre, dedicated to learning how wildlife and human beings can manage to live together in ways beneficial to both. The Centre is a partnership among Princeton University, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Museums of Kenya, the Kenya Wildlife Service, and the Mpala Wildlife Foundation.
